Our curriculum is based on “experiential learning,” recognizing that children learn through play and active involvement with people, materials, ideas and events.

Children are given opportunities to explore, experiment, ask questions, make friends, and develop a true feeling of security and independence. Our aim is to nurture each child’s natural curiosity and to instill a love of learning, while getting them educationally and emotionally ready for elementary school.

Curriculum & Programs

Each classroom teacher designs activities for students with learning in mind.  Our teachers begin the year with an established set of age appropriate goals and objectives for their classrooms.

Children also engage in:
Music Class - Students dance, sing and learn in this interactive program.

Faithful Feet - Encouraging creative movement, gross motor skills and active class activities.

Chapel - A place for children to develop love for a higher power and one another.

School Readiness - Teachers in the Three and Pre-K classes provide parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child's development and learning styles.

Enrichment Activities - We provide age-appropriate enrichment opportunities throughout the year - such as field trips for our older students and “stay-trips” for our students that are too young to travel off site. Our “stay-trips” include a Fire Truck visit and spring petting zoo.  We also maintain a small garden for the children to explore.

St. Martins’s offers classes for toddlers, twos, threes and Pre-K, with flexible day selection and enrollment options for all classes with the exception of Pre-K, which meets five days a week in preparation for kindergarten. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

We believe that gross motor skills and creative movement are essential for children.  That's why we not only have an outdoor playground that has been recently updated, but we are one of the few preschools in Charlotte with an indoor playground (called the Sunny Day Room), where children can develop gross motor skills regardless of the weather.

Our preschool staff family is carefully selected on the basis of their educational background, experience and suitability to work with young children.

Each classroom has a lead and assistant teacher in compliance with state-mandated ratios and the Episcopal Church.

We continually participate in staff development through workshops and conferences to keep our teachers up-to-date and well-informed.
